Everything you need — five minutes end to end.

Install Connect accounts Inbox tabs & splits Shortcuts Licensing Updates Support

Install & activate

  1. Download the latest DMG, open it, and drag Mailwell to Applications. The app is signed and notarized by Apple — it opens without warnings.
  2. Launch Mailwell. On first run you'll see the activation screen.
  3. No key yet? Start Free Trial takes you to checkout — your license key is emailed instantly and the first week is free.
  4. Paste the key. Done — one license covers every account, on up to 3 of your Macs.

Connect your accounts

Add accounts from the sidebar's account list or Settings → Accounts → Add Account. Mix as many as you like into one unified inbox.

Microsoft 365 / Outlook

Click Sign in with Microsoft — your browser opens, you sign in, done. (Some workplace tenants show a short code to enter instead; both paths end in the same place.) Mail, folders, calendar invites, contacts, and server-side rules all work.

Gmail

Click Sign in with Google, or connect via IMAP with an app password (Google Account → Security → 2-Step Verification → App passwords).

Fastmail (JMAP)

Mailwell speaks native JMAP, Fastmail's own protocol — faster sync and instant push. On Fastmail: Settings → Privacy & Security → Integrations → New API token with Mail read/write, then paste the token into the JMAP tab. Other JMAP providers work the same way.

iCloud

Use the iCloud preset in the IMAP tab with an app-specific password from account.apple.com → Sign-In and Security → App-Specific Passwords. Username is your full Apple ID email.

Yahoo & AOL

Use the presets in the IMAP tab; both need an app password generated from their account-security pages.

Anything else

Any standard IMAP/SMTP server works — enter the hostnames and credentials in the IMAP tab.

Inbox tabs & splits

Every inbox gets Gmail-style tabs — Primary / Social / Promos / Updates — classified locally on every provider, so they work on M365 and IMAP too. Add your own custom splits in Settings → General → Custom Splits: extra tabs filed by sender, like @yourcompany.com, github, or a specific address. Splits sit between Primary and Social, matching mail leaves the other tabs, and cycles through all of them.

Licensing

Privacy note: license checks send only your key to Gumroad (the payment processor). Your mail is never involved — Mailwell has no servers of its own.

Updates

Mailwell updates itself: when a new version ships you'll see a quiet prompt, and one click installs it. You can also check manually via Mailwell → Check for Updates… Every update is signed and notarized.

Support

Email hello@mailwell.app — bug reports, feature requests, and licensing questions are all welcome, and every message gets a reply.

Prefer GitHub? Report a bug or request a feature — ideas and votes from other users are public there.
